Thousands of Delawareans do not have access to paid leave.

We are changing that.

We are a coalition of health, labor, faith, business, family and community organizations and advocates committed to passing Paid Family and Medical Leave in the First State.

All of us will face a major medical event at one point in our lives. But for thousands of Delawareans, taking time away from work for a major family medical event means losing their only source of income. In Delaware, nearly 60% of workers do not even have access to unpaid leave at work. The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated the pressures families go through every day.

The Healthy Delaware Families Act will provide up to 6 weeks of family and medical leave and up to 12 weeks of parental leave to Delawareans facing a qualifying event, including:

-        To address a worker’s own serious health condition

-        To care for a family member with a serious health condition

-        To bond with a new child (including newborn, foster and adopted children)

-        To address the impact of a family member’s military deployment

Paid Family & Medical Leave

Without paid family and medical leave, Delawareans are facing impossible choices between taking the time to care for themselves or a family member and losing their paycheck. A paid family and medical leave insurance program ensures that all Delaware workers and businesses have the support they need to care for their families and build a stronger economy.

“I saved up 9 months worth of tips so I could take exactly six weeks of unpaid leave when my youngest two children were born. There was no breathing room. You’re concerned and worried about paying your bills. Paid family and medical leave will help lift up our families so we can thrive.”

— Ernesta Coursey, Wilmington, DE
